Year 8 Attendance

Teaching pupils the importance of taking part

School attendance is about much more than simply being present. This interactive workshop helps students understand the emotional, social and academic factors that influence attendance while equipping them with practical strategies to overcome common barriers.

Through engaging activities, discussion and evidence-based psychological approaches, students develop a greater understanding of the importance of regular attendance, learn techniques to manage challenges that can prevent them coming to school, and leave feeling more confident about taking positive steps forward. The workshop is designed to encourage long-term improvements in attendance by building motivation, resilience and personal responsibility.

This workshop is usually 60mins long.

Understanding Attendance

Students explore why attendance matters and how it influences their learning, wellbeing, friendships and future opportunities. They identify the emotional, social and academic factors that can make attending school difficult and recognise that these challenges are common and can be overcome.

Breaking the Attendance Cycle

Students learn how avoidance can become a cycle that makes returning to school more difficult. Through practical psychological strategies, including the First Ten Minute Rule, they discover simple techniques to manage worries, build confidence and take the first step towards attending school consistently.

Building Positive Attendance Habits

Students leave with practical strategies they can use immediately to improve their attendance. They create a personalised attendance toolkit, identify trusted sources of support and set realistic goals that help develop positive routines, resilience and personal responsibility.
