Post-16 can be a challenging period for students, often filled with anxiety. Our ‘Taking Control’ workshop is designed to empower students to manage their anxieties and fears effectively, both in the lead-up to exams and during them. By equipping them with a toolkit of suitable skills, HIP supports students to perform to the best of their abilities and unlock their full potential.

Taking Control

Focus on Strengths
Exploring your "Why"

Students will delve into their personal motivations, aligning them with their passions and strengths. Understanding their 'why' serves as a powerful tool to keep them motivated during challenging periods throughout their academic journey

Balance
Consistency v Cramming

Students will explore the significance of maintaining a consistent work ethic versus relying on last-minute cramming. Consistency fosters effective time management, enabling students to stay organized, focused, and confident. By consistently tackling tasks, students can avoid feeling overwhelmed and prevent work from accumulating, ultimately promoting a more balanced and manageable workload

Divise a Routine
Be Productive

Students will come to understand the significance of cultivating a work environment that is tidy and conducive to learning, as it directly impacts productivity. They will also recognize the necessity of eliminating distractions, such as their mobile phones, to maintain focus. Additionally, students will explore the benefits of exam simulation, realizing how targeted exam strategies, like practicing past papers and engaging in peer marking, can enhance their learning experience and preparation.

Divise a Routine
Efficiency during Study Periods

To thrive in Post-16, students must maximise their study periods' efficiency. HIP will support students to craft daily plans, emphasising task prioritisation based on deadlines and time required. This structured to-do list aids in daily organization, ensuring students stay ahead of their demanding workload. Furthermore, it fosters a sense of accomplishment as students track their daily progress, fueling motivation for continued success

Stress Management
Managing Curve Balls

Students often grapple with exam-related anxieties like 'mind blanks' or 'freezing', leading to decreased confidence and focus, therefore having a negative impact on performance. Our workshop provides students with effective coping mechanisms to navigate such challenges calmly and positively. By arming them with these tools, we enhance their confidence and concentration during exams, fostering a conducive environment for success.

'Taking Control' aims to support students and develop them in the following areas:

  • Promoting healthy habits
  • Enhancing academic performance
  • Promoting overall well-being leading up to and during the exam period
