Students who have diligently prepared for exams still falter on the big day, often due to mindset. Our workshop draws from five years of experience working with the Ulster Rugby Academy, where we honed psychological skills tailored for professional athletes. Now, we’re bringing those techniques to students, guiding them through the exam journey.

Our goal? To make learning enjoyable and empowering. By the end of our workshop, students will walk away with six essential tools to tackle exams with confidence. We want them to feel in control, knowing they’ve checked the psychological box in their exam prep.

Swim in your own lane
Pillar 1: Swim Your Own Lane

We highlight to pupils how comparisons to others can be detrimental. We examine common comparisons students make, the negative impact these comparisons can have, and strategies for avoiding these behaviors.





Simulation
PILLAR 2: SIMULATION:

We demonstrate to pupils the significant benefits in recreating exam conditions within their study, giving students top tips on how to achieve this. “Under pressure, you don’t rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your study.”

Divise a Routine
PILLAR 3: DEVISE A ROUTINE:

We explore the benefit of students controlling the build-up to an exam rather than the build-up controlling them. A bespoke routine that works for each pupil will aid them in being focused and mentally ready come exam time.

Squared breathing
PILLAR 4: SQUARED BREATHING:

Gaining control of our heart rate during high-pressure situations fosters clearer thinking, making it the optimal mental state for exams. We educate pupils on the technique of squared breathing, empowering them to attain the ideal emotional state for peak performance.

What if then I
PILLAR 5: WHAT IF… THEN I:

We discuss with pupils the possibility of unexpected challenges, or "curve balls," during exams. We examine common scenarios, exploring what an ideal response to these situations would entail. This preparation equips students to stay focused and resilient even if things deviate from their original plan.

Stay in the movement
PILLAR 6: HAVE THE BUTTERFLIES FLY IN FORMATION:

When students recognise that nerves can sharpen focus and enhance performance, they approach exams with a greater sense of confidence. Our workshops empower students to embrace nerves as allies, unlocking their full potential in the face of academic challenges.
