ROI: Children’s Mental Health Week

February

This Children’s Mental Health Week, we will support thousands of 3rd-6th class pupils through our live, interactive online megathon extravaganza.

We will explore emotions through relatable examples from cartoons, sports, and pop culture. With an engaging quiz and a practical toolkit of evidence-based strategies, pupils will leave buzzing with excitement.

Themes of The Workshop

Anger

Children will identify what makes them angry and explore how this emotion is both helpful and unhelpful. We will then help them understand how to self-regulate when they experience unhelpful anger.

Joy

Pupils will become aware of how they can ‘find the joy’ and ‘spread the joy.’ We will also explore when joy turns into over-excitement and how this can be unhelpful, potentially disrupting the classroom. Furthermore, we will help pupils self-regulate when experiencing over-excitement.

Sadness

We delve into the emotion of sadness, recognising it as something that affects us all. We emphasise the importance of speaking out when feeling ‘big sadness.’ Additionally, we introduce two strategies, ‘music’ and ‘movement,’ to have fun in the classroom and help ‘change a mood’ when experiencing ‘small sadness.

Disgust

We explore the core emotion of disgust and look at the positive and negative aspects of this and help the pupils develop a better under of this emotion so they recognise both aspects of this emotion.

Fear

Pupils will learn that fear is like a safety alarm that helps keep you safe from danger, and it can also make you feel brave when you face something scary. We teach pupils a helpful skill to manage fear during the workshop.

Pupil Tool Kit

We will teach four evidence-based practical strategies that pupils can use to manage and overcome unhelpful anxiety. Twinkl has created follow-up activities designed to reinforce the strategies introduced during the workshop.
