Year 12: Peak GCSE Exam Performance

Helping Students Perform at Their Best When It Matters Most

Peak GCSE Performance supports students through one of the most demanding and pressurised stages of school life by equipping them with practical psychological tools and strategies to help them approach exams with greater confidence, calmness and control.

The workshop focuses on helping students manage pressure effectively, stay organised, develop productive routines and respond positively when challenges arise during exams. Through interactive and evidence-based activities, students learn how preparation, mindset and consistency can positively influence both wellbeing and academic performance during the GCSE period.

Themes of The Workshop

Planning for Success

Students receive and personalise a weekly Google Sheets planner designed to help them manage the increasing demands of GCSE study.

A key focus throughout is reinforcing the importance of balance. Many Year 12 students are juggling schoolwork, revision, extracurricular commitments, friendships and life outside school. The planner helps students organise their week more effectively, stay on top of deadlines, manage workload and build healthier, more consistent routines. It can also be used during study leave to help students structure revision time in a productive and realistic way.

Simulation

We demonstrate to pupils the significant benefits in recreating exam conditions within their study, giving students top tips on how to achieve this. “Under pressure, you don’t rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your study.”

Devise a Routine

We explore the benefit of students controlling the build-up to an exam rather than the build-up controlling them. A bespoke routine that works for each pupil will aid them in being focused and mentally ready come exam time.

Box Breathing

Gaining control of our heart rate during high-pressure situations fosters clearer thinking, making it the optimal mental state for exams. We educate pupils on the technique of box breathing, empowering them to attain the ideal emotional state for peak performance.

Manage Curveballs

We discuss with pupils the possibility of unexpected challenges, or “curve balls,” during exams. We examine common scenarios, exploring what an ideal response to these situations would entail. This preparation equips students to stay focused and resilient even if things deviate from their original plan.
